Communication Skills Training for Palliative Care Staff
Foxtrot offers a range of palliative care workshops, which can be booked as part of our UK Tours or as an individual commission. Our two-hour workshop is designed for staff, students and volunteers working within palliative care, whether in day-care, in-patient units or community settings. We can perform with groups of 15 through to 70.
Each workshop is forum-based and focuses on the development of communication and interpersonal skills, ethics, and dealing with emotional and difficult situations. Current scenarios include Inter-professional Communication, Patients Interests First and our extremely popular The Family From Hell.
Foxtrot have undertaken six UK Tours sponsored by Help the Hospices, where we have worked with approximately 3500 staff in over 70 organisations.
"It's punchy, new, lively, engaging - much better than role-play, which renders me rigid with fear so I don't learn anything!" (Staff Nurse)
"An excellent way of teaching and stimulating thought about the preconceptions and communication difficulties within one's own handling of situations. It made me reflect considerably on my own practice."
Foxtrot is currently developing a range of new scenarios for its 2005/2006 season, alongside a full repertoire of scenarios specifically designed for staff working in paediatric palliative care. Contact the Administrator for further information.
Joint Working for Health and Social Care Staff
The Company has taken a direct interest in the issue of Joint Working in the health and social care sectors. On commission from the Scottish School of Primary Care, Foxtrot performed at a 'Research and Development in the NHS and Social Services' Conference in 2004, using the entertainment of theatre to highlight issues associated with Joint Working.
Foxtrot recently worked in conjunction with Dundee Local Health Care Cooperative and Dundee City Council to produce and deliver a series of interactive workshops for frontline social work and healthcare staff. The workshop focused on Joint Working, highlighting ways to improve upon existing methods and to strengthen interagency relationships.
Medical Ethics
Foxtrot offers a variety of stimulating forum theatre workshops, designed to invoke discussion of Medical Ethics among medical students and practitioners.
The Company has worked in conjunction with Ninewells Hospital & Medical School to deliver a series of scenarios that examine the difficult ethical situations that medical students may face as professionals.
We also offer a workshop on the Ethics of Family Planning, Termination and Contraception, designed for GPs and students.
Mental Health
Forum Theatre provides a safe context for sufferers of mental health problems and their carers to discuss issues surrounding Mental Health. Foxtrot has worked with Inverclyde Local Health Care Cooperative and other local groups to produce theatre workshops that raise awareness of and promote good Mental Health and Well-being.
